Mechanic's Liens

cityhallIndividuals and businesses who provide labor or services, or sell materials, in conjunction with the construction of improvements to real property may be able to protect their right to payment by filing of a lien against privately owned property, or by making a bond claim against property owned by a governmental agency.

These rights can often be asserted even when the person performing the work has no contract with the owner of the property. However, this protection is easily lost if specific steps required by the applicable statute are not followed, and preservation or removal of lien rights requires careful attention to detail.
